Lifestyle: 3 Lifestyle Tips for the Bougie Girl on a Budget

As I write this to you, I am sipping on a glass of $3.99 Rose and Finch California Red Wine from Trader Joe's, with my $6 Climbing Rose Candle from Target flickering in the background. To be honest, I really enjoy expensive things but am learning to live on a budget. If you can relate and are in need of some lifestyle budgeting tips, keep reading for more.

1. Learn to take care of some of your “spa-care” needs yourself- I’m talking facials, pedicures, nails, waxing (underarms or below the waist if you feel comfortable but I recommend going to a waxing salon for that), and your hair. Paying someone else to do all of these things is nice but it can add up.

Before the summertime, I was spending almost $500 a month on these things. I have now lowered this amount to about $300. I do at-home facials (using the Glow Recipe Fruit Babies Bestsellers Kit daily and the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Facial Treatment once a week). I buy press-on nails and nail glue from Target and Family Dollar when I want to wear false nails and paint my nails at home. I do a DIY at-home pedicure with Epsom salt and foot scrub in my bathtub, and to lower my hair expenses, I wash, flat iron, and roll it myself. Lastly, I do get my underarms and downstairs area waxed at a salon, but wax my own facial hair (upper lip, chin, and sides of face) with Sally Hansen Hair Removal Wax Strips for $7 from Walmart. I then use a tweezer to pick up the hairs I missed and touch up my brows with a facial razor.

2. Buy “dupes”-I'm going to say it again, Buy "dupes"! There are so many things that I want but right now, it doesn't make sense for me to buy. For example, the Sol De Janeiro Bom Dia Brightening Cream for almost $50.00 for the 240 ml jar at Sephora. The cream smells delicious but I could literally use the jar up in a few days. I researched a "dupe" and found EOS Shea Better Moisture Body Lotion in Vanilla Cashmere for $8.99 from Target. Paired with my Rose body Spray from Bath & Body it smells very similar to the Bom Dia Cream. (I also duped the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Intense Hydration with Vitamin C for $24 for the Aquaphor Healing Ointment for $6 from Walmart. It has the consistency of Vaseline but feels just as smooth as the mask from Laneige.

3. Make your favorite meals that you like to order out, at home- If steak, mashed potatoes, and asparagus is something you like to order out, Guess what? You can make it at home.

Make a trip to your local grocery store and get you a piece of steak, some potatoes, and a bunch of asparagus. You will have a meal for the next day and get to enjoy something that you cooked on your own (Pair it with your favorite bottle of wine, sparkling water, and some flowers for the table).

I hope that you enjoyed these tips.

Be Encouraged,

Noelani
