My name is Greg Murray (more known as A Poet Named Superman).
I'm a poet & spoken word artist that lives in Charlotte, NC by way of a small town called Neptune in New Jersey.
2) What is your blog, program, agency, or organization about? When did
it start?
I host and facilitate multiple open mic events
throughout the city of Charlotte. Mainly, I host “Release Therapy Open Mic” and
the “SuperFriends Writers' Workshop”. Both are outlets curated for not only
poets but all forms of artists to express themselves. Both started in February
2016 and have been running weekly since. Even during the quarantine caused by
the COVID-19 pandemic, both events transitioned to being held online and
flourished.
3) What is your mission? Why do you feel strongly about
this area of interest?
My mission is to "save the world... one word
at a time". Poetry has saved my life more times than I can count. I never
thought I'd be a poet, let alone a host/facilitator. However, poetry gave me
purpose. I felt, "Well... if art can save me, then why couldn't it do the
same for someone else?". I believe the art of expression is needed for
people of all races and walks of life. I also believe it's even more imperative
for people of color to share stories of their journey to bring to light the
constant social limitations (and joys/hope) that they encounter. Inspiration
goes a long way as long as someone expresses themselves and someone else
listens/watches.
4)If someone asked
for your feedback on how to live their best life, What would your response be
in one sentence?
“Life is always gonna "life", but that
doesn't mean you let it be in control of how you react to it.
