Devotionals: You have all of the Tools

Proverbs 10:4 Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth

I remember a time last year when I felt complacent. I did not tell anyone how I was feeling, it was only between God and I. I prayed to God  to grow me and stretch me. Shortly after that prayer He used a conversation between my supervisor and I to convict me.

“I've noticed sometimes in your communication with stakeholders Noelani, you repeat word-for-word my or an editor’s response to your inquiries.  I think it would be best if you try to make the response your own before sending it out". I got a  little quiet as the constructive criticism made me feel a little uncomfortable.

“At times I feel intimidated in my communication with doctors, scientists, and researchers." I said. It's because I am new to the field” I excused.  Though there was some truth in my reasoning, I also had gotten a little lazy; and God and my boss could see it. I had been working remotely for almost a year and was very comfortable in my routine.

“They are normal people,” my boss said. All you have to do is be hospitable, research the answers to the questions you may not know using your journal site or wiki pages,  and reach out to me if you need help. That is what I am here for. But when I do help” she said, “I want you to respond in your own words.”

After giving our conversation some thought I was reminded of my prayer between God and I. “God stretch me, God use me, reveal my purpose”. God revealed to me that I had gotten a little lazy and he wanted me to work as if I was working for him. He also wanted to challenge me to grow. In my personal life and professional life.

Friends and family I am writing this post to encourage you to desire growth and know that right at this moment you have all of the tools you need to grow. Sometimes we make excuses, "I don’t have this, I don’t have the time”, “If only I had this, if only that”, but if you intentionally look around you, you will find that you have all of the tools you need to reach your goals in life. You are ready to grow at this moment.

Here is a challenge: Look around you.  What do you have in sight or in your house right now that will help you get closer to your short- term or long-term goals? What friends in your circle have the information you need? What Youtube or Google search can you use to explore an interest or educate yourself?  For me, I have all of my writing books my grandparents spent their hard-earned money on, books from Chegg that I bought during undergrad, A Pocket Style Manual by Diana Hacker,  The Elements of Style  by William Strunk and E.B. Whit,  free professional development courses offered to me at work to help me grow in my writing and communication skills.  While we have down time or are social distancing due to the pandemic, this is what we can do in our spare time. We have all of the tools!

To growth and to challenging ourselves!

Feel free to leave a comment: What tool/s do you have right now that can bring you closer to your dream.

Be Encouraged,

Noelani
