Devotionals: Be Still and Know that He is God

Psalm 6:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

"You should just wait. Instead of trying in your own strength, you  just wait. Instead of calculating what will happen if its goes wrong, you should just wait" sings  Chandler Moore in the Elevation Worship and Maverick City music gospel song Wait on you. The song is one of my favorite songs and one that I play on a daily basis. I play it to remind myself that my plans are not my own and it is God's plan that stands.

For many years I was always on the go. Whether it be traveling or just getting out of the house to get outdoors, I would be out and gone.  Every time someone invited me out somewhere, I was ready to go with bags packed. Until one day ,God revealed to me that my "flight" response was unhealthy.

 The truth was, I didn't want to be still and God knew it. I didn't want to be alone because I feared the chastisement of shame, plans, and worry from the enemy; but God kept prompting me to be still. "Be still and know" the Spirit would whisper.  Every so often I would hear this over and over so I began doing yoga in my quiet time, meditation, devoted prayer time to God throughout the day, and worshipped. It was in those same exact moments that I felt more clarity, purposeful thoughts and strength. I even felt more assured when dealing with challenges.

In the book of Psalm 46:10, The Sons of Korah sing "He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Just like the song Wait on you by Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music, the singers encourage themselves and the church to be still and wait on God. They encourage the church to trust in God and to stay in faith because during this time, the Israelites are afraid because they are at war with different nations. The sons of Korah sing and remind the people, God will protect them. God had did it before and would do it again.

Psalm 46 8-9  Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

Friends and family today no matter what you are going through I encourage you to "Be still and know that He is God". God desires intimacy with you. He yearns for you to sit at his feet, to be still and listen. Spend time with Him, talk with Him. He wants to hear from you , He loves you.

May you be encouraged and grow in the still moments. I too will be in this with you.
