Romans 8:18 For I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us
For many years I struggled with temptation. Temptation of the flesh . If you are Human, you have most likely dealt with this too. However; I believe that some people have more willpower to fight temptation than others .
When I was 15 years old I started smoking weed. A past boyfriend of mines influenced me ( if you check out my book “Looking for my Daddy, you will find out more about this), and taught me how to smoke and who knew I would become addicted. From age 15 to age 29 I struggled with this addiction. Marijuana replaced friends , family members and relationships . “ I don’t need them” I said to myself. I’m fine” . Truth is after the high was over, I would come back to my real feelings and cry myself to sleep.
How many of us struggle with temptation and don’t have anyone to talk about it, don’t feel comfortable talking about it , or are hiding it ? We hide our fight with temptation under the sheets as if hiding money under a mattress from a burglar .
Jesus shares a parable with his disciples in Luke 8:16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.”. By sharing my testimony this is me coming into the light. I hope and pray that we will resist the fight against temptation with and through God's strength. For what awaits us in Heaven, far outweighs the things we are enticed by on this earth. Lord, please help us.
Father God,
I pray against the spirit of temptation in Jesus name. For you said in 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. Lord , this has been my prayer for some time . Only you can change me . Be the lamp to my feet , correct me when I am wrong. give me self control and an obedient heart . In Jesus name I pray, Amen .
