Devotionals: Lord, Position my Heart to a Posture of Faith

John 4:46-52 46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.48 “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”

Sometimes having faith is hard. I admit. I am always encouraging you to trust in God and to keep the faith, but truthfully, there are times when my faith struggles. An example of this is when I know that God has plans in place for me, but when I don't see them right away or in my own timeline, I start to get impatient. Jesus had a issue with the Jews in his town with a similar issue in this chapter, as if they did not see him perform signs and miracles, they did not believe. He said to them verse 48 "Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

An example of believing without seeing is in John 4: 49-52,  when a Royal Official in Galilee asks Jesus to heal his son. I imagine this Royal official had witnessed Jesus turn water into wine at a Royal Wedding that had taken place earlier in the same town, and now His son was sick(nearly on his death bed), and he needed a miracle. The Royal Official believed that if Jesus could turn water into wine, he could also heal his son .  So The royal official went to Jesus and begged him to heal his son.  Jesus tells him "Go, Your son will live" and immediately without hesitation or doubt the official takes Jesus's word and goes to his son. This official believed at once. I pray that my heart's posture will be the same. To go at once and to believe always, even when I am not seeing.

Matthew 17:20 He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Hebrews 1:11  Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

The bible mentions many times about how we should believe with our hearts and how faith is not believing in the seen but in the unseen. A few actions that this Royal Official took which we can implement into our own prayer life is :

1) Believe

2) Beg/ Plead with God (Philippians 4:6)Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.)

3) Go

May we practice this together and May you

Be Encouraged,

Noelani
