Feature of the Week: Odalys Abreu, Owner of “ Daly’s Cosmetics”

1) Who are you?

My name is Odalys Abreu. I was born in Boston, MA  and raised in Boston and in Puerto Rico. At the age of 9, I moved from Boston to Puerto Rico; and at the age of 15 I moved back to Boston.  I come from a very big family and am the youngest of 6 siblings. I would describe myself as very creative, artsy, hands on, and a lover of all things colorful. I am currently in my second year of college, and am a Liberal Arts major. I'm into makeup, business, and helping others; growing as I go. My plan right at the moment is to finish the year and either transfer to another college,  or head to beauty school.

2) What is your blog, program, agency, organization about? When did it start?

I have a Cosmetic business,  “Daly’s Cosmetics”. The name comes from my nickname which is Laly, but because that name was already taken, I went with a second option. I advertise and market My business on Instagram @dalys.cosmetics. My business started on February 12th , where I first launched my cosmetics products on Social Media. My focus is on homemade Lip Glosses, Lashes, and my new feature, customizable, handmade press on nails. 

In my spare time, I also enjoy trying on new makeup looks. That has inspired me to add makeup appointments available on my page.  I recently started a separate Instagram page @Makeup.by.laly

3) What is your mission? Why do you feel strongly about this particular area of interest? 

My mission is to expand over the years and maybe open up an official store in my name. That is one of my dreams. I want to own a business. I don't know yet exactly what type of  business it will be;  maybe a nail salon, makeup or hair salon , or a combination of it all.  I have a few ideas. I just need to see what life has for me. I’m grinding for it at the moment. I feel strongly about it, and it’s something I know I love and want to show and inspire others. 

I did my friends makeup the other day. It was a girls night, and she really wanted her makeup done. She asked me to do it and I was happy to. After finishing  the look, she loved it. I was feeling nervous because I hadn’t done makeup in a while but said that when I did her makeup , she felt good. She said it boosted her confidence. I felt happy because she said I inspired her to get into makeup and try new things. It felt like it was a life changing moment for her.  I feel like other women have the right to explore this feeling and I am happy to help.

4)If someone asked for your feedback on how to live their best life? What would your response be in one sentence?

Feedback on how to live your best life that I would give is “YOLO, You only live once!” Make your day happy and bright and go do what you wanna do, because at the end of the day you’re going to regret not doing it if you never tried. Go waste that money you're going to make again. You know you should save money, but if you really want something,  go for it why not?! Money is going to keep coming,  if you keep grinding. Take that trip, you can die tomorrow . The next day is never promised so go do what you got to do to live the life you want. Be happy,  go love who you want to, find that new hobby,  go ride that skateboard at age 50, Why not? Do what your heart says because  at the end of the day,  the world is yours. Don't mind other people, they always have something  wrong to say. Prove them wrong and live your best life, stress free.
