Devotionals: Fear Not!
John 4:18 There is
no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do
with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
I want to start this
post off by first Thanking God for his Conviction. For those of you who may not
know, or understand the meaning of the term; it is a rebuke by God our Father
that is meant to help us to reflect on something, and to change us. It is not
something that makes us feel guilty, but is God’s way of showing us that he
cares. Let me provide an example.
The scripture above has
come to me a few times between the last two weeks. The first week it came to me
twice. I was encouraged by it, and posted it on my desk computer at work. The
second week I thought, “There must be something God wants me to know. This is
the third time I have received this message”. Little did I know that he was
trying to teach me something. He was convicting me right where I was. What I
had taken from the scripture, was not what he was trying to show me. He had
another purpose.
For
those of you who do not know me, I am a big fan of Love. I stem from a family
of lovers, who probably say the words “I Love You” more than 15 times a day.
Heck, they will even hug you before
shaking your hand when they first meet you. We love hearts, We love affection, We love, We
love, We love. So when I saw this scripture I was like "Hey, I know Love”. “
I know it very well”.
But the Love this
scripture talks about is a different kind of Love, God's Love. A love that no other
may provide. A love that has no wrongs or fear, a perfect love.
As I read it over and
over again to look into what God was trying to tell me, the two words that stuck out to me were Perfect and Fear. “Of
course I have fears” I thought. I” don't think there is anyone who doesn’t”. But
this is exactly what God was trying to convict me about. How could I say that I
had Love, When I had fear? It said
right there in the scripture, that Love with fear wasn't love. The two did
not fall hand in hand.
I want you to know friends, that with God there is no fear. His love is
perfect, and he gives perfect peace. He wants us to cast our fears on him. To
love means belief. To Love means Trust. To love means to have faith.
When you have fear or feel guilty about
something, this is not God. The Devil condemns which is why you feel scared or guilty, and can go crazy because of it. But Jesus, Jesus convicts.
This is why he is called our Lord and Savior. He is here to save you from your
fears, he wants you live a prosperous life.
Jesus does not replay your wrongs over and over,
but will let you acknowledge what you did wrong, to awaken you and encourage
you to do better. He forgives, and once you repent he is there to offer
you a second chance.
So when the enemy tries to condemn you and make
you worry, remember our Father in Heaven is stronger than him. He will always
be there when you need him; all you have to do is pray and believe.
Be Encouraged,
Noelani
